CJ Lang & Son, the chain’s wholesaler in the country, opened its first branded site to launch its business transformation.
CJ Lang & Son Ltd, a SPAR wholesaler and retailer in Scotland, has opened its first new company store since 2017. As part of its ongoing business transformation programme, it has acquired a third-generation family convenience store, Kinnaird’s Nisa Local , in Dalbeattie, Dumfriesshire. The SPAR Market format store is the first of its kind in Scotland, with a “step change” in the offering of fresh produce and food to customers.
The new store focuses on fresh fruits and vegetables, refrigerated foods and meets the main customer missions, including “prepare a meal” and “grab and eat”. In addition to a range of products available in-store at a large deli counter, the store offers a wide range of fresh produce and foods from many other local vendors.
“SPAR Market is an exciting new fresh, chilled and produce store format for CJ Lang and SPAR Scotland that will help differentiate and grow from our traditional SPAR customer offering. As a truly Scottish family business, we share many similar values with the Kinnaird family. We want to maintain and build on all the great work they have done while adding additional SPAR Scotland products and services to the store,” said Brian Straiton, CJ Lang & Son Company Owned Stores Operations Manager.
Store Manager Marie McMinn, along with her team, invited the community to an in-store launch event on Friday, April 22. Customers took the opportunity to collect free goodie bags, spin the wheel to win prizes and sample treats. The event also saw two local organisations, Alma Mcfayden Care Home and Dalbeattie Playgroup, receive donations of £1,000 each from SPAR Scotland.
