Social media giant Instagram has simplified its video creation tool. Said update combines both IGTV and stream videos in a single format. Besides this combination, Instagram has also introduced new features. This includes cropping the video, tagging people and location, and filters.
Additionally, Instagram clarified that the said update will not negatively affect Instagram Reels, according to Tech Crunch.
In case you didn’t know, Instagram removed the IG TV button from its homepage last year due to a lack of traction. Apart from this reason, Tech Crunch also noted that the Facebook-owned company observed that the IG TV app had only accumulated 7 million downloads from its over 1 billion users since its launch.
What’s new on Instagram’s video features and tools
As mentioned, Instagram has combined IGTV and Stream Video functionality. On their blog post, the company noted that the said combination will definitely make it easier for its users to find content. Instagram added that the streamlined version of IGTV will help content creators have fun, tell stories and easily connect with their audiences.
On this subject, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said in his IG video that he believes video formats should not have a division. Mosseri added that combining Instagram videos will shorten the process for creators and users.
“When a person searches for content to watch online, they’re never specifically looking for a long or short format, they’re just looking to watch videos and be entertained. I’m glad I don’t have to navigate to so many different surfaces to look at things on Instagram anymore, ”Mosseri continued.
The social media giant clarified that users can still download videos by clicking the plus sign in the upper right corner of Instagram’s homepage.
Additionally, said update includes a new video tab and IG TV ads.

New video tab
According to Instagram, this feature emphasizes said video combination. With the new video tab feature, it will easily identify the content that users like. Additionally, the video tab will also have up to an hour of content and will include previews as well as people and location tagging.
In-stream video ads
To understand the performance of each video, information about posts and videos is combined into a single metric created for content creators as well as business owners. With this in mind, previously known IGTV advertisements will now be referred to as In-Stream video advertisements.
Instagram made it clear that creators can still monetize long-running videos, and that’s still part of Instagram’s revenue sharing issue. The social media giant noted that companies that want to reach more audiences should not have videos longer than 60 seconds.
How to use Instagram video updates
To use IG’s new video tab, Instagram said viewers should tap the video to go full screen. In addition to this, a scroll option will be displayed on the screen. It will help users to discover new video content from other creators.
As mentioned, IGTV ads can be used to monetize content up to 60 seconds.
