New tool in town of Indio will give residents easy access to financial data
INDIO – Have you ever wondered about the city’s total losses, total savings or projected cash flow without knowing who to ask or having time to research the information? You will soon be able to access this financial data and more.
Citizens looking for information on the City of Indio’s budget and spending will soon be able to access Open Finance, an online research tool designed to increase the accessibility and transparency of the City’s financial data. Coincidentally, Open Finance will be launched at the start of the new fiscal year, allowing the public to quickly and easily view the information.
“The City of Indio continually strives to provide accurate, timely and relevant financial information,” said Rob Rockwell, Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer. “We look forward to the upcoming debut of Open Finance which ushers in a new level of citizen engagement and interaction. “
Citizens using Open Finance can see where the City’s revenue is coming from and how it’s spent, budgeted against actual revenue and expenditure, as well as supplier payments. The site’s interactive tables and charts provide several options for displaying financial information in an easy-to-read format. Users can dive deeper into the details by hovering over or simply clicking on the elements of the chart. Users can drill down to the operating budget, view income and expenses by category, and access more specific information for each category.
In the Vendor Payments section, the public can see who the city’s major vendors are, view expense summaries, and even view vendor payments over time. A vendor checkbook feature will also be available for those who wish to view detailed information about vendor payments. Additional information on the City’s payroll data is expected to be available later this year.
Municipalities already using the site include Chelsea, Mass., Fairbanks, Alaska, and locally, Indian goods, California. Open Finance is accessible via mobile phone, desktop or tablet at www.indio.org/openfinance, and will be updated weekly, providing reliable and timely public information.
