If you are trying to transfer files or save disk space, compressing files is the way to do it. Compressing files is very useful and has helped me many times, especially when trying to email large amounts of data or speed up data transfer. This tutorial will show you how to create zip files and unzip them on Windows 11 systems.
Create zip files
Creating such files will help you compress large files and allow you to combine multiple folders. The process is simple and you follow the steps below:
Step 1: Navigate to the location where the data you want to compress is located.
2nd step: If you want to compress multiple files / folders, you can put them in one folder. [If you don’t, you can skip this step and move onto step 3] do the following:
- Right click on the screen.
- Hover the cursor over New.
- Select the folder.
- A folder is created, move files / folders to this newly created folder.
Step 3: Now, right click on the file / folder you want to compress.
Step 4: To select Compress to ZIP file.
Step 5: Once the Zip file is created, you can rename it if you want.
Extract the ZIP file
You may need to extract a zip file in case someone uploads a zipped folder. It’s as easy as closing them.
- Right click on the compressed file and select Extract all.
- Select the location where you want the extracted data to be saved.
- To select Extract.
