With threats from the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron is looming one after another, states are closing schools and educational institutes, many colleges had not even reopened for almost two years. As classes continue online, in this new year, it’s time for the ed-tech industry to redefine itself. Not only is there a need to make online courses more engaging with human connections using gamification, virtual reality, but also to ensure that it is more accessible.

“It is quite evident that trends in educational technology are completely transforming the education sector. With the emergence of a new strain of highly mute coronavirus, Omicron, it looks like the first months of 2022 will follow the new normal, ”said Dr Sanjay Goel, director of JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur.

Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, multimedia, virtual reality and augmented reality will continue to play a central role in education. Students were able to virtually connect with each other and continue their education amid the pandemic due to the technology. The global global educational technology market is expected to exceed $ 240 billion by 2026, according to Goel.

Methods to be reinvented in the education industry

Dr Silpi Sahoo, Chairman of the SAI International Education Group, believes that a virtual learning experience with enhanced physical reality is the future of education for years to come. “Online learning will be more real with the help of the metaverse which involves the concept of augmented and virtual reality (AR & VR). The year 2021 had large, almost real, virtual platforms to host school events, with the arrival of metaverse events, the online classroom will look more real than ever, ”adds. she.

Since the arrival of online education, some interesting trends have emerged, such as personalized learning and pacing, online assessment and use of advanced technologies, improved lesson retention and reduction of evaluation bias. Educators will use app-based assessment strategies to assess critical thinking, says Prashant Jain, CEO of Oswaal Books.

Gamification is said to be one of the new trends in education that will dominate in 2022, says Goel. “Play lessons are useful for engaging students and generating maximum interest and enthusiasm for learning. Even the use of videos for online training (or video learning) will see a new boost this year, ”Goel said.

Sahoo also says blockchain will be the “it” thing in data security education. The use of blockchain in education is still in its infancy, but the future seems to be approaching the use of blockchain as a data security tool. “This will help streamline the tedious process of verification, transfer records, employee records, unique student credentials; making the processes easier and error-free, ”she says.

Making sure education reaches every corner

Dr Sahoo says that by 2021 education could not reach the very remote places of India due to the lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity and internet availability. “It made us think about rethinking the future so that no child is left behind. The year 2022 must reach homes in the most remote place of India, not only on paper but also physically, so that education does not only remain so basic but more employable, ”Sahoo said. .

By reaching every nook and cranny of the country with better infrastructure and better technological integration, students can become more employable, she adds. 2022 will put more emphasis on the policy that gives further impetus to vocational education by introducing vocational subjects and training at school level.
